We are a dedicated group of GIS Professionals from a wide variety of disciplines and backgrounds who are aiming to foster an environment conducive to idea sharing, education, and networking. Our goal is to begin organizing regional lunch and learns with professional presentations focusing on geospatial technology, professional development, and ethics in GIS.

On June 5th 2012, we held our first URISA Workshop, Building an Address Repository Using the FGDC Standard, in Austin, TX, with a conference room generously sponsored by Freese and Nichols. The workshop was instructed by Martha McCart Wells, GISP, URISA past president and a national leader in addressing practices. We had 43 registrants from all across Texas, and one from as far as Little Rock Arkansas. A formal round table Texas URISA chapter meeting in Austin, Texas from noon to 1:00pm CST. The meeting discussed future leaders of the Chapter and submitting a petition to the URISA board to be recognized as a formal chapter in organizational status. The rest is history!

URISA Texas is in the planning stages of it’s next workshop, this time to be held in Fort Worth, TX. There are over 100 active URISA members in the state of Texas who now have a chapter to call their own. There will be plenty of opportunities to get involved, and many opportunities to volunteer.
