Selling the Value of GIS

Presentation Outline:

You go to the conferences and do all the meetups, but still can’t seem to get those big projects rolling in your organization.  Maybe it’s lack of funding, or lack of support, or just lack of time.  Don’t worry, you’re not alone.  This talk will walk you through the fundamentals of how to “sell” the value of your GIS and what it can do to the decision-makers in your organization.  With concrete examples of projects that have worked in Johns Creek, GA, you’ll learn the way to tailor your pitch to the right people so that you can make an even bigger impact than you already do.

About The Speakers:

Nick is currently the Chief Data Officer for the City of Johns Creek, Georgia.  His focus is on leveraging data to help engage citizens and empower smarter more proactive government.  Some of his team’s most notable projects include: launching an award-winning open data portal, creating the first Alexa skill and call center chatbots powered by open data, and partnering with Waze and other major tech companies to drive innovation in government.  Prior to his work with Johns Creek, Nick worked with several different tech startups, as a GIS and IT consultant, and within varying levels of government using GIS to improve municipal services, measure water quality, and encourage land conservation.
